Brandon Sanderson / Re: Mistborn Book 3 Was In Store Days Before Release!
« on: October 14, 2008, 05:22:55 PM »
Well I don't know if they were put out early or you're just that good, but the bookstore here was sold out of HoA today  (Good for you, Brandon, but I wanted a copy, dangit!) and we're going to have to go make a trip around to all the other local stores to see if they have them in stock tonight after the hubby gets off of work.

Heh, that's hilarious. Annoying for you, and you have my condolences, but still slightly hilarious in an 11pm sort of way.  I got annoyed by the lack of movement in the plot a while back and haven't read the last couple of books. Once MoL comes out then I'll go back and read them all in order to catch up, but I've got more than enough to read to keep me entertained until then.

I just discovered Abney Park, a steampunk band. ^^ I'm quite enjoying All the Myths are True and Airship Pirate.

Everything Else / Re: Random career question......

1.  I wanted to be a policeman or firefighter. Or pick your public service career of the week.
2. Now I just want to be a seamstress and housewife, maybe in a year or so a stay at home mom. When I have kids I want to be able to be there at home for the all the time the way my mom had been for me.
3. I'm currently doing pretty much exactly what I want to be doing, except with the addition of workin at the local game store. I was coerced into it. My husband wanted the employee discount and I need the extra change for fabric expenditures.
4. Well I hope to keep doing what I'm doing.  ;D

Oh I don't know, Brandon's known for his avalanche endings. ^^ In comparison, Rowling's endings are a bit meh-ish.

Grilled cheese? really? In that case, I could be convinced. ^^ Especially if they serve them Croque Monsieur style? Dang, now I want some along with tomatoe soup...

I like Chinese, Japanese, and Mexican as well as Italian although we did indeed have it last time. American is usually good, but I have a slight aversion to Five Guys. While I'm sure it's the best burger you could ever get - and my husband agrees with you - I just don't like hamburger. It's the texture. *shudders*

Email's sent. Do either of you have any preference on where we go or type of food?

Definately.  I've got Alcatraz for you to sign as well. ^^ Friday afternoon works for me too although I'm free all weekend.

Congrats on the deal, Brandon. Several people I know were more than overjoyed at the news. (I quote: "Squuueeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!") This will probably inspire me to actually read through the books leading up to it too, rather than just reading the "book in a minute" summaries  as I have for the last few books ;)

That's brilliant. I think it's rather sweet that you read books together. My hubby and I did that for most of Alcatraz and I wouldn't mind doing it a bit more often- I get a kick out of doing the voices.   Just be sure to feign surprise at the end  ;)

The husband-creature and I just finished reading Alcatraz together (twas his first time reading it) and loved it. He was cracking up and just about died laughing at the ending- a wonderful shot at Harry Potter. ^^

Perhaps it's my apathy for the rest of society and what they think of me, but I've never considered it flaunting or remotely bold to let other people see that I'm carrying a fantasy book around. Rather, I read what I like and dangit, it's more convenient to read holding the book up rather than getting a crick in my neck. If people judge me to be a geek for reading fantasy, so what? I *like* fantasy and scifi. I don't know these other people, and'll probably never see them again. But then you'll get the people who are curious, who approach and ask what you're reading and if it's good. Maybe they'll still think you're a geek, but maybe they'll go out and buy whatever you're reading and like it too. And since you've already got a fiance, if anyone actually teases you about reading fantasy you can pull the "well *I've* got a fiance, do you even have a girlfriend?" card.  ;)

You know, while I really liked the first Temeraire book, and the second one was 'fun,' I really wasn't impressed with the third book at all. I won't pick up the fourth book when it comes out unless it gets reviews saying 'wow, this was so much better than the last one.'   I think Brandon's a much more consistently good and entertaining writer.
