Brandon Sanderson / Re: How did you find out about Brandon Sanderson?

I know a librarian who would disagree with you.  Violently.

That Orangutans are pretty much the same as monkeys? I guess monkey's have tails and orangutans don't, but I'm going to have to disagree to your librarian disagreeing..

...The exciting version, however, involves corruption, deceit, monumental explosions and plenty of violence.
It all ends with me receiving a free copy of the book after I saved the Queen from ninja assassins.

That happened to you too? If your ninja assassins were also monkeys, I'm gonna freak...

Well they were orangutans.  :o Pretty much the same, both in the ape family..

Most people have a lot more interesting ways of knowing about him. I feel mediocre in mine. xD His first Mistborn book was given to me as a Birthday present.

Yes, they have. There are probably too many threads on this to count.
I'm glad you are enjoying the book so much, it's the best.
Your predicition of the ending makes me laugh.
Enjoy.

Pretty much did have that sort of ending! Though, definently a lot better than I feared - AMAZING. Very sad I've read them all now and it's over.

How awesome is the mix of superheroes with fantasy?

You say that like the two are different.

Well there is a difference between fantasy heroes and comic book heroes, is there not? Comic book heroes are a lot less dynamic; seeing as they've been created for a comic book rather than a novel.

..Completely hooked now, can't wait to go get the rest of his books  ;D

If they haven't - can't see why not! Because I'm going a little crazy my self.
The first two books made me laugh out loud, gasp in horror and cringe with embarrassment. When I ordered the last book I was impatient for it to arrive, and now though I'm only half way through the book, the overwhelming urge to write about it and hear what others think of it overtakes me.

I did not like the beginning as I was worried Elend was going to become the central character and Vin set aside; despite her being the centre of the story. However, now I'm loving it - Vin's still pretty much the main protagonist and Elends .
Also love how Sanderson is protraying Spook as a superhero; I've got this amazing image in my head of him crouching on a rooftop, watching the crowd below as The Citizen enters the scene - dressed in flamboiant bright colours. His face is partially masked and he has super powers that pretty much no one else has. He's also about to save -I hope- someone from a burning building. How awesome is the mix of superheroes with fantasy? It's not even a main part of the storyline! (I don't think..)
Though one part I'm not enjoying is the indecisivness of the characters. They'll start thinking one thing then think 'However..' There's too much contemplation of humanity for my liking. They're all too concerned with the morals behind their actions, it's like the book's one big philisophical debate.  And sorry to sound melodramatic, but they aren't doing very well so far at finding out how to prevent the end of the world.

I'm eager to see how Sanderson  managed to tie up the loose ends - it better not end with 'A single flower sprouting from the ashes...'

Movies and TV / Re: Alice in Wonderland ::Maybe Spoilers::
« on: June 17, 2010, 09:11:40 AM »
This movie was seriously over exaggerated my side. The previews starting coming like 2 months before hand, and I didn't even get a chance to see it on the big screen when it did come out though I agonized over this as everyone told me it was amazing.

Now I just watched it last week, and I wanted to cry! That ending was hideous. The rest of the film was decent, it had the usual crazy colours and amazing things associated with Burton that we all love, but the ending... It was too rushed for one thing, a bit like "No i can't stay in paradise, I have to go back to the real world and start a buisness." Her actions when she got back, didn't really reflect any resolutions she may have made while in 'Underland'.

I also disliked Mia Wasikowska's acting.  :|

Video Games / Re: Dragon Age: Origins
« on: June 17, 2010, 08:55:52 AM »
There was a lot of hype about the game at first, so I pre-ordered it and started playing it right away. Sadly though I lost interest in it fairly quickly. I would like to pick it back up. I tried with two different melee classes. I'm guessing a caster class is much more appealing and much better with putting out damage. For a company that does great RPGs, it feels very linear with where you can go and what you can do. Maybe I set my expectations too high, but it just didn't get me going the way I was hoping for.

Dragon Age seems like a game more for those of us who enjoy a bit of mindless running around collecting things -like Assassins Creed- combined with an interesting plot. and they've gone and concentrated on developing that rather than the actual storyline. Modern games are being made which appeal to those collecting points instead of us who love a good RPG. :/

On another note, I loved Dragon Age  ;D Couldn't finish it as our xbox broke but I planned on starting again as a mage, was a human warrior the first time around.

I'm just wondering if someone could give me a run down on how forums actually work? This is the first one I've actually joined and I'm feeling rather helpless.
So many buttons, so many topics, so many sub-topics.. A quick run-down would help a lot  ;D

Thank you!

Books / Re: Fantasy girls, where are you?
« on: June 16, 2010, 11:34:19 PM »
I'm not sure if anyones already said these but...

Green Rider series - Kristen Britain
The Black Magician Trilogy - Trudy Canavan

..And my minds gone blank, can't think of the others! But I found those two amazing. Also Vin I have to say wins the award for best female protagonist.
Me being a female myself I'm always disappointed with how women in book are usually portrayed as the cliche 'damsel in distress'.

I recently began playing Deus Ex; Invisible War and loved some of the tracks on there, which turned out to originate from a decent band called Kidney Thieves. Loving some of their stuff at the moment  ;D

Currently listening to Sunday Bloody Sunday, U2

Hello, name is Julia.  :)
No fancy degree's from me just of yet, am barely 17 and just completed my first year of 6th form. I live in the UK. I have a deep love for reading and came across this forum while researching one of my recently favourited trilogies.

Hobbies? Reading, music, games (mostly RPG, or first person shooter when I'm feeling mindless).. basically the more anti-social activities which give one a wan complexion and a shy attitude. But when you're living in one of the most direly drear contries of the world, these things tend to happen. I'd probably accept Britians lack of excitment and culture if I was originally born here. Sunny South Africa was my home for 6 years til we migrated.
I'm also a budding writer, With many idea's but no knowledge on how to expand on them really. It's frustrating. :)

..and that's pretty much it.
