Books / Re: anyone else get sleepy when they read?
« on: March 28, 2010, 10:18:24 PM »
I only get sleepy if I read a bad book or read really late at night. But I have noticed I feel more tired if I read all day then if I did anything else. Must be my small brain getting too much exercise.

No, why would a word like techy or techie annoy me?  It isn't a person.

Anyways, the original poster here may be interested in checking out the blog Nick and I maintain that reviews all sorts of new novels.  We review most of the stuff people are recommending, as well as a bunch of stuff people are leaving off.

Elitist Book Reviews (the link is in my sig.)

I have been reading that blog before I came to this site :)

Its great !

How can you possibly have read 100 fantasy series of books when you only list over 20?

Um... clearly that's not a complete list...

Yeah thats not a complete list for one thing the star wars I have read could be considered 10+ series but I really meant over 50+ series for sure and many that aren't complete yet... or very recognizable.

Thanks for all the suggestions most are on my list to get when I next go to used book store. Thanks a lot!

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Thank you Mr. Sanderson
« on: March 19, 2010, 07:22:49 PM »
Finally! Its about time I see someone post a thank you to Mr. Sanderson and TGS then the people who only look for ways to  find errors and critize. I was also hesitant to believe that anyone could take my personal favorite series and make it continue to be the fun, witty, and beautiful writing yet keep the darker twisting plot lines that I enjoy. But after reading Mistborn, Elantris and Warbreaker I was convinced that a better author couldn't have been found than Mr. Sanderson. Mr. Sanderson did a great job and I can't wait for TOM and his new series later this year.

To the first question I believe that it was the bridge to Tar Valon not the ones to the Tower which probably don't have gates as it's for the town entrance not the Tower's.

Then to road the Aes Sedia are traveling down I would hazard a guess that the road is straight to center of Tar Valon behind the bridges as wagons and caravans wouldn't be able to go down narrow or twisting alleys. So Egwene could easily see them specially if she was holding the power.

Additionally, on page 713, when Egwene rides across the bridge, we are told that "on the other side of the bridge, the Sitters waited, solemn." Then, on page 714, we are told that Egwene rides alone to the White Tower - apparently nearly outpacing Gawyn and Siuan - and that the Sitters "were waiting in the Hall for Egwene".

The sisters that meet her were not Sitters of the Tower they were just regular Sisters.

As to your last paragraph I feel that you are looking for errors rather than enjoying a book. Mr. Sanderson is doing amazing just to finish the story I don't think any ghost writer could keep all the geography or characters the same as an original authors. Especially when the original author is Robert Jordan... who is thought to be one of the best epic fantasy writers ever. I think you should try to ignore little errors or things you think don't match up and just enjoy the fact that Mr. Sanderson and RJ team decided to give us fans the last books.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Ive met Brandon Sanderson

I actually don't understand why people value signatures at all. I don't get it.

I guess it is just me, since most people seem to find them valuable.

Me neither, but I would love to signed copies of Wheel of Time and Mistborn because they are two of the top 10 series I have ever read, and I have read many, many series. Being as Mr. Jordan has passed away it would be difficult to get the Wheel of Time and since Mr. Sanderson lives most of the way across the USA from me and I live in a small town that a signing will never come to. But, I always keep my eyes out on ebay and Mr. Sanderson's site.

Eagerly awaiting Mr. Sanderson's new books , Towers of Midnight and starter of his new epic fantasy ( name escapes me ).

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Continuity problem regarding Rand in TGS?
« on: March 16, 2010, 09:11:49 PM »
I doubt it was a mistake or overlook by Mr. Sanderson and the editors.... I just think Rand is a very hard character to write and this is a HUGE crossroad Rand is at. Will he take up the banner of light and fight for people or will he just be there because he had to be. I think this is the classic : Will you fight because you must or for the good of others.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Way of Kings Cover Art
« on: March 16, 2010, 09:09:03 PM »
Wow Mr. Sanderson. Great pick you and yours made to pick the best artist for a great cover. I find it hard to believe that people are so critical of it... the scope of the picture with the funnel storm clouds is great. I can't wait for the series and know that it will be great.

Once again I just want to say your a great author not only because I love the Wheel of Time but also for the other great books you have written. Your magic systems are amazing and creative. Hopefully you will continue to write great books for us your fans but most importantly for yourself.  :)

First of excellent book Mr. Sanderson and very well done with smooth transition of writing styles.

Now my few complaints are how the plot seemed very easily predictable. I guess after 3 years+ waiting and speculating most people who are forum participants and theory fans knew the main plot of the book. But even so it was quite predictable. I know you have to cut the books in thirds but I wish a fewer surprises would have happened in this section. The only thing that really surprised me was Rand's Epiphany and Verin's double crossing of the black ajah ( sort of a loophole plot filler though... like it was crammed in there) .

All in all one of the great books of the series.... and can't wait to see what happens in the next one with Matt ( my favorite character)

Mack

PS Why no Elayne chapters? Guess she doesn't have much to add to the plot after seizing the throne.... and WHO KILLED ASMODEAN?????  >:(
