Actually, the first 2-3 books are not that bad.

I highly recommend the Runelords series by David Farland and Dhampir by Barb and J.C. Hendee.  They're fantastic!

I second the Runelords!

Take a look at Michael A. Stackpoles "Age of Discovery" triology, it has some nice ideas and I enjoyed it.

@guessingo:

I like Stackpoles character development. His characters feel "real" to me. I do not feel rushed at all, even if his books tend to be short. Try Talion: Revenant (stand alone) or the dragoncrown war cycle (1+3)to get a feel for his writing.

Modify due to dimwitted oversight of page 2.....

Have a alook at the "Age of discovery" Trioligy by M.A. Stackpole. It ist not really asian mythology, but borrows heavilly.

Books / Re: Are Star Wars books worth reading?

They are mostly mainstream and many are medicore at best. But, if you like the universe, there are some well worth picking up. Anything done bei Timothy Zahn is good, the X-Wing Rogue Squadron series is very enjoyable. That where I'd start if anywhere.

Terrybad?? Good grief, nice to see you have found your way to some decent author. The Sword of Truth series went downhill after 5 books it took my breath away. Read Elantris, read Warbreaker.

Bejay--
Yeah, WriterDan visits EBR, which is why he mentioned BONESHAKER and asked me about WINDUP GIRL.  Bookstore Guy (me, one of the dudes on the Elitist blog) and Steve (me, the guy to whom Dan asks his question) are the same person.

I know, I just overlooked that he was adressing you, not the community in general. Forget everything I said after "Good morning...." ;)

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Suvudu Cage Match Finals, Rand vs Jaime

If Balefire is allowed, I'd ask that Rand challanges Richard Rahl to a side duell in the hopes that Rand uses a beam strong enough to burn all but the first two Sword of truth books out of the pattern....

Back to topic, I don't know all of GRRMs works, but I don't see how he could stand a chance against Vin, Mat, Elend, Perrin, Raoden and Lightsong (doing the commenting at the sideline, he won't be needed to fight)

Before you pick up Boneshaker, you might want to head over to the elitist guys. They reviewed that one just now and it came up a little short of the expectations....
