I kind of think that is to say that The Sopranos has a stereotyped view of Italians, because most of them are not in the mob.  Sure, most of the characters are chefs or musicians, and then the teacher and the lawyer, but that's because thats the section of the population the story is about.  <shrug>

Also, you're right about that show Boardwalk Empire.  I'm quite interested in checking that out.

Really?  Wow!  I just love it.  Though... It seems like a lot of the things that I love, other people find quite boring.  <shrug>

I feel like I've been posting a lot of these different topics about things I've been watching... is it bugging you guys?

Actually on topic:

I just caught the first episode of this show today, shortly after learning of its existence.  It's from David Simon, the mastermind behind The Wire of which I have only seen the first season, but quite loved it.  Set in New Orleans three months after Hurricane Katrina, it follows a number of different characters, ranging from Jazz musicians to lawyers, through their lives in the city.  Like The Wire it is deeply complex, and each character is multi-faceted, but it never feels like too much.  It feels like watching actual people living through the tragic events.

I know that it is green-lit for a second season, thank goodness, and I fully intend to finish this season, and watch the next.  HBO always seems to deliver on its content.  I'm interested in a couple of shows that they are producing right now... Boardwalk Empire, set during prohibition, and written by writers from The Sopranos, and Game of Thrones, which I am sure most of you are familiar with.

Anyway, anyone else seen Treme?  If not, I fully recommend that you check it out if you get the chance.  Make the chance if you can.  :)

So there is!  Right where it always is, on every forum... Uh... I don't think that I have an excuse for this one.  :)

Hmm... there should be an edit button - I have heard of her, I just didn't recognize her name.  I recognize the name of her book, though.  I thought it sounded quite interesting.

That's alright Silk.  :P  I didn't realize he was a literary snob, though... I will admit, I tend to enjoy the snobby books, without really realizing they are snobby.  hehe

I've never heard of Mary Robinette Kowal; I think I will check out her book.  Thanks for pointing it out.  :)

Jeez - sorry again for the long breaks in our conversation.  I should really check this website more often...

We definitely should.  I won't be able to for a bit - I'm going to my family's cabin and we have no electricity up there - but as soon as I get back, we should check it out.  And don't hate me 'cause I'm a nub.  :)

I picked this book up off of my friend's book shelf on a whim, intending to scan through the first few pages to get an idea of the style.  Instead I ended up sitting there, reading it for the rest of the day until I was finished, basically.  I don't usually read this kind of book, but it was fantastic.  Anybody else?

hehe!  I've been just using the hunters knife so far - haven't had a whole lot of time to play, but I'm interested in the bow gun, and the switch-axe.  What do you prefer?

Also, sorry it took me so long to get back... I've been kind of busy lately.  :)

Oh yes, I know that.  I've loved my fair share of old, campy sci-fi.  :)

I looked around, didn't see a topic, so I thought there should be one.

I recently picked a copy of this up, and I am sincerely loving it so far - I've dabbled with a couple on the PSP, and found them fun, but lacking.  But Tri, I have had great fun with.

Anyone else play this, or other games in the series?  Also, I know there is some sort of online mode, so feel free to post whatever contact information you need.  I haven't checked that part out yet, so I'm not exactly sure what you need, but I think I read it was friend code free.  <shrug>

Also, if you haven't checked this out yet, I highly recommend it.  It's great fun.  : )

I'm sure there is something to be said about that video, but the words aren't coming... I just... just... huh.

No... I wasn't questioning the clone part, just river being said clone.  Sorry if I was unclear...  And, if I recall, he refers to her as his daughter on more than one occasion, too.  And there must be some change with the DNA, or she wouldn't have been a woman... <shrug>

I should really check out some of the earlier stuff... what do you think?  Start at the beginning, or is there somewhere better to start?

A few spoilers ahead - nothing too bad, in my opinion, but I thought I should warn anyway.

To be honest, I have only seen the new series', starting with 2005, and I'm not really sure how to rank the three doctor's I've seen.  I loved them all for different reasons.

And I agree about the writing having suffered ( The Vampire's of Venice? ), but I feel like they handled the Pandorica pretty well.  They built to it subtly - not as subtly as Bad Wolf, and it wasn't handled quite as well, but still.  I was glad to see how they incorporated some of the seemingly random episodes into the overall arch, like the Van Gogh one.

One of my problems with the newest season is how they threw some ideas around, but seem to have abandoned them.  Like Amy not remembering the invasion of the Daleks.  They hadn't been erased from existence, yet, so she SHOULD remember them, right?  Unless I just misinterpreted something there...

And if you mean, by "female clone", the Doctor's daughter, I'm reasonably sure that they are not one in the same.  It has been heavily implied that she is the Doctor's wife, and so that would be kind of creepy... to each their own, though, I guess....
