Yeah, he died in 1999.

I remember reading Where the Sidewalk Ends a long time ago.

I'm gonna have to find me a copy...

though i probably shouldnt say this but will anyway, wasn't the picture he had of himself in the back of the book frightening? it was a really, really close close-up.

As a kid i always found it hilarious.

AS a really young kid. Meaning a tot, I read a bunch of arther books (Meaning i liked to look at the pictures). I think he was a kangaroo but i'm not really sure.

He could have been an anteater...

What about those pamphlet looking books that had the pictures you were supposed to color in them, you guys remember those? Those were awesome.

There were so many books that my teacher handed out to us, it was great because we'd pride ourselves on who had the most books. And i'm sure none of us ever read them really. Just sort of collected them, like war trophies. We all know that kindergarten was war.

Then, abit later, there was Nate the Great, and a series of other books similar to it. I can't bring myself to remember the titles of any. Just know that they were picture books with a line or two--Where the Sidewalk Ends! Thatwas an awesome book.

I heard the author's dead now...

Now I'm mainly reading self-improvment books--for my writing not my flabby parts--and manuscripts of either mine or friends works.

What i'm trying to say is, i miss my picture books. So, so much.

Are you talking about Shel Silverstein? Where the Sidewalk Ends was written and illustrated by him.

Yeah. He died didn't he?

And he could be an aardvark but i don't think i knew what an aardvark was at the time.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: What MB character are you and why?

I'm Vin, as scary as that might be. But, when I read mistborn and whatever "Reen" would whisper I would nod and agree. Or maybe that means I'm more like "Reen." Which is a scarier thought.

All it means is that your three dimensional. Well, this only says that you have to dimensions, but we can assume if you have two you'll have all of them. Its sort of like Allomancy, it is.

Or, this could also mean that your just a girl, i assume your a girl because of some otherwise elusive  evidence that i have cunningly taken note of (default pic, and name). And we all know that all women have their shy, insecure side as well as their Demon-God(dess) Wrathfulness too.

Its typical. Your typical. No! I'm kidding, i just thought it..be..fu--, bye. :-\

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Best Mistborn Fight Scene *SPOILERS*
« on: November 28, 2008, 04:52:28 PM »
While I really loved the all-powerful, flattening of Kredik Shaw fight with Vin, my favorite was when she fought Shan. Maybe not for the content but what it meant. She did that all on her own, not with any help from the mist. Also, I wanted to jack Shan in the face for the whole book and I love it when mean girl's get what's coming to them. =]

 ;D

Your new to this forum, aren't you?
Yeah, i also enjoyed seeing Shan getting what was coming to her, but i knew she was mistborn all along--and i knew Vin was gonna have to kill her. It was pretty obvious--to me.

Nonetheless, catfights are always good. Always.

Here's a bigger cover picture:

Ruggedly handsome? (I can't tell. I'm a guy.)

I like the black/white contrast, though it might have been more impressive with Vin in her black ball gown.

Yeah, I think the ball scene with the color contrast would have been more impressive.

I'm wondering what Brandon meant by that scene.  With preservation=white and ruin=black, and with the two powers only being whole when they work together, I imagine you could go in some fairly creative directions trying to interpret it.  Some of them might actually be coherent, although I've read enough literary criticism to not trust it.  It just seems too obvious to say that Vin destroyed the old Empire and Elend salvaged something out of them to create a better world, thus providing an extended analogy for the whole series...

But I really don't trust a lot of literary criticism.  I think I'll stop here.

Antithesis is fun.  ;D

By the way, I like the cover a lot.  The difference in height just popped out the second I saw it.

that is most definitly not how i pictured elend would look. infact....has anyone seen stardust? The actor who played Tristran in stardust would make a good elend i think. He can be pretty nerdy, but their is also a hardness to him...

They are before and after pictures of what elend might have looked like before the epic and at the very end.

P.S Stardust (written by Neil Gaiman) is a really good book, and not too bad of a movie.

Books / Re: What are you reading, part 3
« on: November 22, 2008, 08:12:50 PM »
I'm reading a bunch of self-improvement books on writing. You know, the kind that helps you "Find your voice," "create unforgettable characters," and write "a damn good novel!"

Does anyone have any particular books in mind that focus on becoming a better writer and the like?

Thanks much.

Yeah, its really considerate. If you really care about someone you teach them to be independent and not just help them when their down. The latter only prolongs a fate, while the former does an efficient job of changing it.

I'm glad to have been apart of this. ;D

WOT was such an exhausting read. Terribly slow. Unbearably so.

I was not as impressed as everyone else.

I'm definitely a breeze.

I have a rich taste (except for the hat thing). I complain plenty, but deep down inside i really care. Plus i'm extremely lazy. And younger women have a thing for me. :P

I'm not sure if this is internet taboo but Writing.com is a wonderful website where you can have your work critiqued, along with having the option of restricting it fro the general public, and limiting it to other participating members.

that should prevent publishers from seeing you work online, thus the ramifications that posting you work brings up is nullified.

Problem solved.

And, to top it off, it lacked its essential kick ass cars. WTH? This is a 007 film, where are the Aston Martins, and what the hell is this Ford Edge doing here?

Ford Edge? Seriously?

No joke.

I deeply, deeply hurt.

If you're always hungry, that should be more incentive to, you know, eat your hat.

Okay, okay, i get it.

I might go back home for thanksgiving, or i might work, but if i do go back home...

then you shall see something amazing, or disgusting. Or it could start off as amazing then turn out to be distugsting, or tragic. either way, you'll remember this thanksgiving.

i'm on it.
