Brandon Sanderson / Verin in The Great Hunt-very slight spoiler
« on: March 11, 2009, 09:30:50 PM »
As I was re-reading The Great Hunt one thing jumped out at me that I found weird. It was when Verin, The Shenarians, Rand, Matt, and Perrin were visiting Stedding Tsofu in Chapter 36. Alar, Eldest of the Elders, asked Verin to touch an Ogier named Trayal who was the last Ogier to come out of the Waygate alive since they were requesting permission to use the Waygate on their way to Toman Head. What she found was an Ogier who was completely empty inside. No soul, nothing. Now I was under the impression that once inside a stedding the True Source basically does not exist. Anyone able to touch the True Source would feel an "emptiness" where the Source had previously been. Yet Verin lays her hands on Trayal and comes away sayings that he's empty inside. How would she do this if she was unable to touch the Source?

I'm sorry but what book is AvSB exactly? I don't post very often and I don't mean to come off as ignorant, I'm just unfamiliar w/ the book you are referring to. This thread has made me curious since I am searching for a good book to read after finishing MB3.

Thank you,

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Vin as HOA?

I will preface this by saying that I have not read any of the annotations yet so I apologize if there is information in it that I am not aware of to answer these questions I pose.

But isn't she noticing the pulses are really far away and not at all where it actually ends up being?  Doesn't that imply she is being led around on some wild goose chase.  I am trying to remember if that is correct as I type this.

Plus just b/c you feel the pulses doesn't mean you are the HOA does it?  The reason I say that is b/c in Sazed latest translation, whomever is writing it seems to have changed his mind about Alendi(I think that is his name) being the HOA.  Whatever reasons he once had for supporting him obviously changed.  So maybe hearing the pulses does not mean that you are the HOA, just that you are being used by The Deepness to further its own goals.  Or it could just be that The Deepness is feeling threatened by Alendi and is manipulating the Terrisman writer in order to destroy him before he can kill it I suppose.

Now I am confusing myself lol.

Brandon Sanderson / Vin as HOA?
« on: April 21, 2008, 04:00:39 AM »
As I am re-reading The Well of Ascension a thought keeps popping into my head. What if Vin is not the HOA. What if Elend is? The writing that Sazed is translating sounds as much like Elend as it does like Vin. Am I way off here? Anyone else think this is even remotely possible? If it is then this would be a pretty cool twist, but I thought I would ask some of our more smarter(lol) readers their opinions.

Again this is just a thought that keeps popping into my head. I could be way, way, way off here. There could be so much "evidence" that Vin is the HOA as to make this post quite rediculous(sp?) but i can't recall reading anything that jumped out at me about it. Anyone have any prophecies or anything else that you can recall to prove my point wrong?

Not sure if I want to be proven wrong but I am curious to know what everyone thinks.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: The Mists

Chaos you stated:

In fact, I'm beginning to think we all have it backwards. Our normal analysis says that when we use Allomancy, the mists move. That's cause and effect. The Allomancy--cause--makes the mists move--effect. Well, switch that around. An Allomancer uses his or her subconsious, and somehow that channels the mists--pulling the mists towards the Allomancer--and that, in turn, lets the metals burn. The mists are the cause, rather than being the effect.

So...
If the mists are really the "cause" of the metal burning, then why are Allomancers able to burn their metals during the day. The mists have only recently started appearing during the day, correct?  ???

Brandon Sanderson / Re: MB1 ? about Lord Ruler **** Major Spoiler****

I was under the impression that The Lord Ruler had his age defying bracelets pierced directly through his skin, which would allow him to draw the powers that were stored in them whenever he wanted.

It could also be that I have no idea what I am talking about, as my wife likes to remind me of.  :D

Maybe we could call ourselves, "The Zaniacs" or "The Zane Gang" orsomething. Just spitballing some Fan Club names here.

Hi. First time poster here. I thought Zane was carrying a bag full of Atium beads when he "died". Am I mistaken on this? Might have been a good thing for Vin if she had searched his body before he disappeared. That is generally what I tell my wife when we run into any Mistborn anyways. "Always go through the pockets after you've killed them" lol. Personally I don't think he is dead, probably because I liked his character a great deal lol.
