Title: Scribbler - 2011
Post by: libraloco on August 25, 2010, 11:39:43 PM
@Peter:

So is it true that Scribbler is going to be published by Tor next year? Is this what Brandon's going to work on during his WoT break?

Brandon hasn't announced such a thing.

All I've seen on the subject is Moshe Feder's tweet about buying it that Peter RT'd a few days back. Also, one year from purchase to publication would be an insane turnaround, so I doubt it's a 2011 release.

Moshe Feder:  is delighted to announce his acquisition of SCRIBBLER, a new YA fantasy by Brandon Sanderson to be published in Fall 2011 by Tor!

A one-year turnaround isn't insane when it's a short book that's already had three drafts (though it needs another one or two). And the publisher is Tor, who really wants a Brandon Sanderson book to put out next year.

I will be the first in line.  I've read the early chapters of it, and loved every moment of it!

Are the early chapters for Scribbler online somewhere that we could wet our appetite with? Not that we haven't had tons of wetting from WoK previews.

Oh so this is coming out!  I just remember reading once that Brandon said it turned out badly.  I guess he meant it wasn't up to his standards yet, as opposed to "this story totally sucks."

It is a great story. I have read it and quite enjoyed it.  I think it will sell well.

Brandon has always been happy with Scribbler as being a good early draft, but he recognized some problems that need fixing. It was Liar of Partinel that turned out bad.

No you won't.  I wasn't able to get time off for WoK and Scribbler is my very favorite of his books.  Even if I have to quit my job and sell a kidney I will be first in line for that one.

I seem to recall some plans you had to act out the magic. That is awesome. Also, soon I will be able to understand what the heck you were talking about in that thread. :P I'm pretty psyched from what I've heard.

Yeah, we were going to do it at the WoK release but we decided to wait until the Scribbler release.

Yes, and I'm happy about this change, because although I may miss the WoK release, Scribbler I will be there for. Definitely. I really want to ref this duel. Badly. So very badly....

I must learn this magic before release so I can understand what's happening. Not that I can guarantee a trip to Utah in '11, but still. Who knows when you'll run across somebody who's sketching patters on the ground at you? One must be prepared for anything. ;P

Precisely.   You must be prepared for ANYTHING.

Like gorillas in phone booths, that get moved, and it takes longer to find out who they're calling.

All the references to this book made me very excited when Moshe tweeted that.  Unfortunately, unless it's released in the first half of 2011 I won't be able to read it until 2013.  Rrrrgh...
And if anyone isn't taking Miyabi seriously, start, he totally means it.

Ooooh, 2011 can't come fast enough if this happens.  I've heard the bits and pieces about Scribbler, SO exciting! Maybe by then I'll be able to take the time (and $$) to drive over for the release par-tay   ;D

I'll have a mini-van then... the entire STL chapter of the TWG  could fit in, with luggage and snacks. Road trip?

How are all of you getting to read this stuff early? I have extra organs, too... anyone need a spleen?

Of all of Brandon's books I've read so far, Scribbler seems by far the easiest to bring to the big screen...of course, it will need the sequel before it gets to that point.  Any word on how many books will be in that series?  It ends with LOTS of potential for the future.

The island states connected by clockworks rail is a cool idea.  It gives a sense of "alternate universe".  I love the unique worlds that Brandon creates.   I wish I had time to just sit and chat with him for a few hours.

I had become a lurker after HoA due to some very large projects and am VERY happy that Scribbler will finally be picked up. Off to my inception ceremony, see ya'll in 2011. lol

See, now this just makes me sad. I won't get to read scribbler till 2013. Though I will be at the WoK release tonight, so I would wholeheartedly approve of some dueling there....

That'd be really cool!  lol.  Best app evar!

Arianna - you stalk the evil undead overlord for years.

Calvin - I think it's confirmed 2, maybe 3.  And possibly more.  I'm too tired to find my jump drive with my list of his books and such on it.

Yeah, Miyabi has special "in with brandon" super powers. Heck, im pretty sure he gets to read the stuff even BEFORE brandon writes the first draft, so he knows whats gonna happen before brandon does.

If anyone is interested, at the signing last night he was asked when Scribbler was coming out and he said it was in the fall of 2011 (I believe, but it certainly had a release schedule).

Is Scribbler a Shard book?  God, I haven't been around here in months.  I'm forgetting things I knew.

... What was the name of the Shard in Warbreaker?  :-\

Well if it's anything like Alcatraz, it won't be. From the chapter or so I've read, it doesn't really seem to fit into the Adonalsium framework.

No it's not a Shardworld.  It's a steampunk book that takes place on Earth.

Hey that's certainly awesome too.

One gets me to go "hell yeah, a Sharworld book!" and one gets me to go "Awesome, a Sanderson book!"

The difference is small, but not important.

Well, so much for my note to Peter asking if I could mention this, yet.

I hadn't read on here for a few days. Am staying away until I get through WoK, which only arrived yesterday.

On the other hand, amazon got me my copy of WoK yesterday, when they had told me I wouldn't see it until next week. Which means it arrived on time for the Orlando signing last night.

Was fun to meet Brandon in person, and get to speak to him. The WOT bumper stickers were cool, as well.

And while I got my books signed, I asked about Scribbler and the possibilities of it being the next Y/A, and he said look for it in Fall of 2011, which obviously is no sort of secret at this point.

He also mentioned something else to me about a certain thesis which was nice to hear, however.  ;)

No ... but not all hope is yet lost for those who hope for a chance to read this. Don't feel like I can say any more at this point, though. Don't want to lose my head to the evil overlord.

Evil Undead Overlord.

I don't want to lose my head to either kind!

Let me put it this way ... if the current copy stays lost long enough, it might be available in the same way Scribbler has been.

That should be cryptic enough to avoid my death.
