Title: Taiwan Cover
Post by: Chaos on November 25, 2009, 09:31:50 PM
Come on Dan, the Taiwan cover has defeated the German cover in the scale of awesomeness. However, it looks a bit too much like a crappy hack-and-slash horror or zombie book, what with the graveyard and the red tones.

I love the cover, I just don't know that it fits the novel a perfectly as the German cover.  It feels more like the cover to a novel based on exorcism...like Mike Carey's Felix Castor novels.

However, this cover easily defeats the US cover.

I am so confused... There is not a single graveyard in Dan's entire book.

I actually just saw that and was coming back to edit my post. ha ha ha.

I like it, though I don't believe it reflects the book as well as the German or U.K. covers did.  Why is he walking through a graveyard?  Except to maybe insinuate that he killed those people.

It's also on my website: http://www.fearfulsymmetry.net/?p=343

Yeah, there's no graveyard in the books at all, and no church until the third one, but the image evokes the right feel: this is a guy who spends his life with death. The red tones and the scratched typeface do give it kind of a slasher feel, but I think it's balanced by the overall loneliness of the image--the silhouette in an empty graveyard, the "not" fading into a blank sky, etc.

Well, it wasn't on your site when miyabi asked ;)

I agree, Dan. It evokes the feel of the novel, so in that way, it is a successful cover. It sets up accurate promises to the reader. Factual accuracy comes second.
