Title: I has proof...
Post by: sortitus on August 16, 2009, 07:06:14 AM
...of my idiocy.

You know that game, Tea Double You Gee? I beat it, and it only took me 24 days 20 hours and 39 minutes!

What's your best time?

Time logged in as expected... which explains the zero unread posts...  wait, a story about kids?  Windows XP?  Aigh!

Um..wut?

I'm guessing it's just based on when the cookie was created.

I think sortitus is talking about how it shows him of reading every single post created on the forums.

The time calculation is tripped when you log onto the site, and lasts for X time. If you don't do anything in that time, it just adds a certain amount of time to your total. If you stay active on the forum, it adds all of that time and the base time at the end when you either log off (it may not add the base time on if you log out, but I never log off, so I don't know) or go inactive again. It goes something like that, anyway. stridera can probably tell you what actually happens in detail if you wish. I hit the bookmark on my toolbar whenever I'm bored, which is a whole lot, so I have a lot of time logged. Leaving a tab open doesn't count as activity. If it did, my number would probably make me suicide.

Ah, yes. The Tonka-themed XP interface is quite great, no? If the screenshot had come from my machine, it would have looked like XP without visual themes enabled (which looks suspiciously like W2K). :P Or were you referring to the Windowsness in general?

When you log in a time token is started.  Every time you refresh the page or click a link to a different part of the site, it compares the current time to the value of the time token.  If the difference is less than 15 minutes it adds that time to your total time logged in and creates a new time token.  If the difference is greater than 15 minutes then it creates a new time token without adding any time to the total.

I really don't think it's 15 minutes since I've it says I've been logged in for over 18 hours, and I know this is the first time logging in since yesterday.  It's probably based on the last time you set your cookie (read: the last time you actually had to type your username/password)

Total time? You don't think you've logged 18 hours?

EDIT: If it's the last time I had to log in, I'd be at a hundred days quite easily.

Er, total time.. I guess that could be.  I guess I could always look at the cookie, but I'm lazy. :)

I love how last night the results of the poll were 0,0,3. :P

Lazy? A member of this forum? You're besmirching our good name, sir. I hope you're properly ashamed of yourself.

I'm a programmer... if you can show me a programmer that isn't lazy, I'll give you my hat!

I agree with Sortitus. Lazy, on our forums?! Miyabi, be a dear and dispense with the punishments!

Yeah, you may have been logged in for more than 18 hours, but if you don't click anything for more than 15 minutes, even if it's 15 minutes and 1 second, that time won't count towards your total time.

I linked it in the first post because I was too lazy to scale it down to post as an image.
I've been logged in for 8 days (+1 hour).
Aye, but have you triumphed? Hmmm?

The poll results are great. Thanks.

also: How can we, sortitus, be sure you didn't use cheat codes to get all of the topics read?

We all know the cheat code.

Because I don't have the internet, and I don't get Time Waster's Weekly, so I don't have any access to that information. *ahem*

Yeah, I think we did. But I'm pretty sure we never had any hat-eating. So whoever was supposed to eat the hat didn't. Sad Day.

I have 5 days, 10 hours, and 8 minutes logged in.

In my defense, that's not what this topic was originally about....

The real question is how many cake supporters are on the list. And how we will destroy them.

The power of cake is more than pie can destroy. It is limitless.

My time: 19 days, 9 hours, and 29 minutes....not bad at all.

Yeah, but as far as time:post ratio who is the winner, huh?

Lurking competition!

i have approximately a 19 posts/day ratio.

for a precise ratio, I have 38 posts/2915 minutes. (i dont think i can simplify that any further, no common factors jump out at me, but i spent like 20 seconds simplifying from 532:40810 to that, so it's good enough)

Maybe it's just me, but couldn't we all look at our profile and see what ratio it gives there per day? Or is that based on actual days since you registered rather than days logged?

it's the latter. It's posts per real days, not posts per time logged in. That is, if you signed up and posted 1 once in your fits week, you have 1/7th posts a day on average, and your profile will show this, even if you've only had 5 minutes of online time. (well, it'll show about .14 posts a day)

That makes sense. It also explains why everyone is going to the trouble to actually do the math.
