Title: Mod Voting!
Post by: AvalonDreamer on November 19, 2008, 08:40:32 AM
Alright. Assuming we're allowed to pick our Lord Ruler... I mean Moderator, who would you folks rather have? Any new nominations can be added as they come up.

The poll is open for five days, and anyone who votes may alter their vote until that time. At 12:39 MST, next Sunday, the vote will close.

Avalon, is it possible to edit in another person if they get nominated? The nomination process moved rather quickly, and while I thought that only Raethe and I have been brought up for the moderator position, it wouldn't be right to leave anyone out of the process.

(Also, to reiterate what I said in the Rules of Reading Excuses topic: No flaming, because both Raethe and I are a little ambivalent on the subject of who gets picked; we'd go for whoever gets picked. It's no big deal)

Yes, I can add new people in, and extend the deadline.

NOTE: SE is Saint Elhers, I put it up as a joke... now reconsidering that attempt...

I'm a bit confused on the abbreviations used I'm afraid. I have no idea what to make of SE. I'm assuming WE is writing excuses though.
Anyway, I think it would be a good idea if we have someone who is participating to be able to mod this section. Who that person should be doesn't really matter for me.

SE is the abbreviation for SaintEhlers, an administrator on TWG. The monkeys were more of an inside joke than anything, since SE's current name is "The Holy Saint, Grand High Poobah, Master of Monkeys, Ehlers". He's the Master of Monkeys, apparently.

I see.
Thanks for the explanation and sorry for killing the joke  ;D

Forgive my ignorance of all things forum, but is it possible to have co-moderators? I only suggest this sine I know Raethe is a student with limited time (get back to your studies! *WHIP*), and I'm sure others have "lives" outside of this. Co-moderators could catch more problems that one over-strained one. Just an idea.

Oh, and since I'll take the blame for naming this forum, I might as well jump on the grenade and volunteer to be a moderator (preferring a 'co-' prefix with that).

I really don't know about that. That's the discretion of the administrators, I guess.

But Karl, I don't WANT to! :(

Well, Fell is already the Mod over this board, the idea now is to get someone a little more diligent than him here for when it all goes up in flames Dec 1.

We might be able to get co-mods thought, that'd be awesome.

I can make as many of you into mods as I want, though what I want is still very up in the air. Raethe and Chaos both seem fairly active, so I could mod them both, but do they want it? Would they do it? You're the tribal council here, and I'm just the divine hand that makes dreams into reality. Choose your leader(s), have Avalon send me a single, official message (for lo, he is my chosen messenger), and I will make it happen.

I knew I liked Dan...he used a Survivor reference! Clearly the best show on TV!  That aside, I say both should do it.  Then one can pick up the slack if the other is unable to moderate.  There is my two cents.

Doesn't really matter to me who ends up getting picked, or even if someone is chosen at all. I just thank that a lot of you are spending large amounts of time posting in this forum that would be BETTER SPENT WRITING!!! *lets a loose a pack 'o dogs* Now back ta work all o' ya!

Just what would a Mod do in RE?

What are the responsibilities?
Title: Re: Mod Voting!
Post by: Silk on November 20, 2008, 02:10:01 AM
Well, it seems we're well on our way to actually getting our writing group organized, so it seems to me that the mod's responsibilities will mostly be housekeeping stuff - pinning threads that need to be pinned, editing threads that need to be edited, that sort of thing. We're a level-headed bunch, we don't need a lot of p0licing.

Raethe would be happy to be a mod, or to be one of the mods. She would not be at all bothered if she wasn't a mod, either, since she's sure whoever's picked will do a good job.

Actually, having two mods might not be a bad idea.  Might make things a bit more efficient, since we're all busy people.

Raethe likes to talk in the third person.  I'm just messing with you. So I think you guys have done a great job over here. Your organized and have willing members. Its cool to see this stuff. Its also cool that they are going to let you elect a MOD. I mean look at you your all grow up. Anyway I know I'm not a member although I would like to be so I voted due to my experience on the boards. Its good to see this election is a little "cleaner" than the last one if you know what I mean.

Monsta, just post in the Email List topic with your email and you're in. No big deal :P

The other election was funny, though. Good times.

EDIT: Whoops, forgot to read the other posts on page one. Two moderators doesn't sound like a bad idea. It would make things more efficient, like Raethe said. I'm not bothered at all if I wasn't a mod, and whoever is chosen will do well.

I think two mods will be good, since this Reading Excuses thing could get very large.

I also agree with the idea of two mods.

Once again, why don't we stick with the "Ride it out and plan after we get an idea" theory? If one mod + Fellfrosh can't manage the group, then we can ask for more as we need them; I'm sure Sprig will be helpful, if only so he doesn't have to do it himself, lol.

I didn't really think Fell was going to be doing much moderating at all. I dunno, it's not like adding two mods for a board would be much more difficult than adding one. It might actually be easier since either way we'd have to track someone down to do it for us if we decided we wanted another mod later.

Again, though... It's hardly life or death. Just going for what seems easiest here.

I vote for both Raethe and Chaos. If nothing else, if things get too tense, we can sit back and watch them mod each other to death.

Alright, folks. There is a distinct possibility of us taking both as our chosen leaders.

If anyone has any problems with this course of action, tell me now, and your please will be ignored... I mean taken into account.

Please be prompt, as the decision will be made shortly.

Sounds good to me. I'm not exactly sure two moderators are needed just yet, but I think it's a great pre-emptive action that will keep Reading Excuses in relative tranquility. We don't know how hectic things will be once submission time rolls around, so I'm all for this course of action of two moderators. Really, there's no reason not to have two moderators.

It is agreed then.

Chaos is there ever going to be an election on TWG that you don't win? I'm starting to get depressed here. Although I voted for you because I had never seen Raethe before that doesn't mean that I don't want to see you loose. Nothing personal but when you vow to capture someone it doesn't make them want you to be an elected official.

Ahh, democracy at its finest.

Vowing to capture someone? Eh? Sounds like there's a story here I'm missing - do tell. Better yet, write it out and do it as a RE submission. ::)

The PM has been sent. Hopefully over the course of tomorrow, our Mods to be are raised to their new status, and RE shall have it's official leaders.

Updates shall come as the are received.

Child of Pollen, I am not shiny, for I do not have the glory that shininess requires, but a mere humble glow from brushing with such mighty beasts.

*glows*

As for prayer, his Lordship He-Who-Smileth-Upon-His-Followers-With-Righteous-Joy does enjoy the occasional recognition for the wonder he visits on this board. Pray where you will, for his mighty eyes shall read anything posted within this forum.

It's their little game on the thread 'These Stupid Titles" in the Rants and Stuff board....Apparently Monsta escaped the law, and he's being hidden by others, and Chaos has vowed to find him and bring him to justice.....that's an extremely condensed version, and I'm positive I'm missing something, but......yeah.

The reason why I'm doing is that I am, technically, an agent of the government. I was elected the Hero of Ages in the Brandon Sanderson forums over some nonsensical debate (see: http://www.timewastersguide.com/forum/index.php?topic=6073.0), which I ended up winning (which explains Monsta's comment about my ability to win elections). We joked that I became the Lord Ruler, and so when Monsta leveled up one time and broke out of jail (these titles are quite hilariously ridiculous), as the Lord Ruler, it was my duty to capture him. Or something.

Ahem, now that we are all caught up on our inside jokes...

It appears Raethe and I are now listed as Moderators. However, it also appears like I cannot even pin a topic. Maybe I'm just not seeing any moderation options at all, but really, I've moderated forums before, so I thought I knew where to look for the moderation abilities. Apparently they are hiding, or I don't have them. Hmmm...

Ah, so I only knew half of the story....That does indeed explain Avalon's comment on the elections (which was something else I was somewhat curious about...). The idea of it is pretty funny....it pretty much is a story of it's own....One of you SHOULD take Raethe's advice and write a story about it and then submit it. That'd be cool. Create characters in place of Monsta and Chaos and any other noteworthy roles....(like the people hiding Monsta, Chaos' opponents in the election, etc).

I wish there was a shaking head icon. Because I would totally use it right now in reference to Chaos....I voted for you. And you can't even moderate properly.....I see how it goes (*here's where the shaking head icon would go--it's for the disappointment which is just exuding from my very being...or something*).

Worry not, I PMed Fell about the moderation difficulties.

Yeah, it was a pretty fun fake election for Hero of Ages. Seriously, you should check out the topic called "The Heroic Debates" a few pages in the Brandon Sanderson forum. That was hilarious stuff.
