Title: MB2 release party?
Post by: MPlease on March 19, 2007, 07:03:32 AM
Ok, so maybe it's still a bit early to think about, but I was wondering if there were any plans for the release party for MB2 yet. MB1 was in Provo and I was hoping that MB2 would follow suit. I've somehow managed to convince my husband to let me fly out for it if it is. ;D Besides, there's a small anime con in SLC at the end of August one of my friends wants me to come out for and I have family in the area -  although that may all be just a happy coincidence...

My bookstore connections informed me that they are taking reservations for MB2.  EUOL will want to confirm this, but I do believe that an event is planned (or in process).  Considering how well MB1 did at the pre-release event, I can't see Tor not saying ok to another one for MB2.

Tor is on board.  I'll be doing the pre-release on the 18th of August, most likely.  Anyone who is on the Waldenbooks pre-release list will get a numbered copy.  We'll do this one a little earlier in the day than the last one, hopefully, then maybe do diner afterward.

What about those of us who aren't in Utah and want signed/numbered copies?
can I send cash to someone going to buy it for me still?

Yes indeed.  Though, I'd suggest having them put your name on the list as well.

*nods* Exactly my plan as well... Now to find a proxy to stand in the interminably long line on my behalf. mwhahaha.

P.S. Hey, Not Bookstore Guy, how come you're not Bookstore Guy anymore?

I ended up quitting the bookstore for a whole lot of reasons...EUOL knows most of the story.  Looks like it may have been a good thing since they are planning on closing like 300 waldenbooks in the US this year.  I basically only go in there now when there are big signings.  I will go to this release party though, and I'll do dinner after with whoever is going.

hmm. That's no good. :(

Anyway, you seemed to enjoy the job so much that I got all puzzled why you weren't our resident Bookstore Guy anymore. Sorry that you didn't leave the job under happier circumstances. But, hey, I'm sure the signing and dinner afterwards will be much fun regardless of that.

Provo?

I live in Boston, but I might be in Cali for the release. Anyone else close?

I was always sad I missed the MB1 release party.  I meant to go and then didn't because I got confused as to the date.  I still have a full collection of signed BS books though...I really hope I make it to this one.  I know my wife's on board.

Candylion,

I'll be in Cali eventually, but probably not until the end of the year.

Morinar, I hope you can make it!  If it's anything like last year, it will be a blast.  We'll have door prizes and maybe even refreshments.

Free prizes AND free food? I'm not sure how anybody could resist that!

Oh, and I think there might be a great new book coming out at the same time.  ;)

I really don't know where I'm going to be. I could be in Boston, L.A. or Japan. Hopefully Japan, albeit 3 books are coming out: Mistborn: The Well of Ascension, HP & Deathly Hallows (ah sue me), and Red Seas under Red Skies (Sequel to The Lies of Locke Lamora).

shw00t....but I might be gone...grrrr. Then again it's to furhter my art career...ah the life of a fantasy-obsessed asian gir.

August 18 eh?  ;D If it weren't 11pm in Utah at the moment, I'd call and reserve my spot right now. Ah well, it'll have to wait for tomorrow I suppose... *wanders off to find airline tickets*

I am going and can pick up copies for people. PM or email me, and include information about where you want it shipped and what you want Brandon to write in it.

Do you have to reserve a spot for the pary, or can you just show up?  If you do need a reservation, how do you get one?

yes you do, and to do so you need to send me $60 for reserving the space and $40 to SE so the Ninja Monkeys would attack the party and ruin it.  If he gets $4,000 then there will be no eminent danger as long as a few people are willing to get hit by poo now and again.

What's a little poo after all?

Note that the $40 fee is for the ninja monkeys to do nothing. If you want them to do somethign specific, the fees increase.

Hmm. Hey, SE, for $70, could you get the monkeys to intimidate EUOL into making his signature legible in my shiny new copies of MB2?? Now that would be a special request, I must say. ;D

OH, and Nessa, you are my HERO!!

What's the best (i.e. easiest) way to reserve my copies at Walden? Do they have a guy I can email or do I need to call?

ninja monkeys can only do the seemingly impossible. Not the actually impossible.

I'll be in St. Paul, MN next August. Do you think there will be a book tour stop any where around there? I'm sure there are some good book stores in the Mall of America right? maybe? please? I made it to the Denver one and acted like an idiot, if you remember... and got my mistborn and elantris signed... but MN is pretty far away from Provo...

Brandon does have relatives in the St. Paul area. (They took us to Buca during World Fantasy a few years ago. It was freaking cold outside that weekend, and I know Minnesota can get a lot worse than that, so I'm very glad I don't live there.)

Not that that will tell you whether he plans on going up there anytime soon. Just sayin'.

Can I get Nessa to reserve me a copy and get it signed, even though I live here? I'm just kind of lazy.

But you might not be when the book comes out so either way do it.

So we can order the signed and numbered copies, or do we have to be there to get them? I can't wait until the sample chapters come out. When's Alcatraz coming out, anyways?

You don't have to be there to get them but you need someone to be there for you.

Alcatraz's official date is October 1st but EUOL did just get permission for a pre-release party for that too ,no date has been set yet, but my understading is that it will be at the same Waldonbooks.

Holy *&%^* you ARE lazy if you think that's gonna fly.

Of course, I'm already aware of Fell's inability to do things for himself; however, that doesn't mean I need to do them. I already have a husband, you know.

Damn. How disappointed I am. Times like this make me wish that I lived even moderately close to brandon. Even a six hour drive away would've flown with me. But noooooooo...I have to live in the middle of the freaking pacific ocean.

If I lived in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, I wouldn't be complaining.

Finally remembered to call Walden and reserve my 2 copies. yahoo! :) I am excited to see the Well of Ascension in print. Not quite sure if I'll be able to come to the signing in person--I may be driving cross-country, helping my friend move from Boston to L.A. But I have the ever-awesome Nessa has my backup. So I know my copies will be in very good hands.

I have gotten several people to read the first book--my co-worker included. In fact, she says she has been forcing herself *not* to finish it because she doesn't want it to end. heh.

*dances* Woohoo! Finally got plane tickets to Utah for this shindig. It was looking grim for a while when prices went up past $400 but thankfully they came down a bit. Still, this is definately the most expensive book I'll have ever bought. ;D

Ok, ok, I'll give you that. But if it makes you feel better this vacation is, in fact, about visiting my in-laws and friends who still live in Salt Lake, as well as catching one who's coming down from that end of Canada that week. It's a happy mix of coincidene and planning that the pre-release is happening while I'm out there.  :P
