Title: Tabloid Reporter to the Stars
Post by: Eric James Stone on February 21, 2007, 04:18:30 PM
My story "Tabloid Reporter to the Stars" is now available at Orson Scott Card's Intergalactic Medicine Show (http://www.intergalacticmedicineshow.com/cgi-bin/mag.cgi?do=issue&vol=i4&article=_001).

So when are we going to see the sequel "Tabloid Reporter to the Stars' crazy uncle that's never really worked a day in it's life yet m00ches off the Stars so he can live the good life"?  Because I've heard that's an awesome story.

I'll put that story on my to-do list, Spriggan.  Right after "Count to infinity."

Chuck Norris counted to infinity.

Twice.

Last time I checked, Eric wasn't Chuck Norris.

I am obviously no Chuck Norris.

But among all his legendary exploits, there is no record that Chuck Norris ever wrote a story that made someone laugh until they coughed up blood (http://www.hatrack.com/ubb/main/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=047578).

Aw, come on. Everyone knows that Chuck Norris is such a brilliant writer that blood is always involved somehow. If he writes a humorous story, you laugh until you cough up blood. If he writes an emotionally touching story, you cry tears of blood. If he writes a suspenseful thriller, you bite your nails until your fingers bleed. And if you ever dare to criticize his writing, he rips your heart out and uses your blood for ink in his printer.

How can anyone deny the glory of Chuck Norris? Did you know that he delivered 3 sets of twins once? And at the SAME TIME he was giving birth to TRIPLETS.

I'm not saying that Chuck Norris is incapable of writing a story that would make someone laugh until they cough up blood.  I'm just saying there's no record of his having done so.

Chuck Norris guffaws derisively at any pusillanimous desire for documentation.

Here's some of what Jason Sanford of storySouth had to say about "Tabloid Reporter to the Stars" (http://www.storysouth.com/comment/2007/02/stories_of_the_week_hodgepodge.html):
Quote
This wonderfully written science fiction story deftly pulls off laugh after laugh while also illuminating critical issues surrounding science, religion, culture, and, most importantly, what exactly is that thing we call truth.

Chuck Norris create truth right before he create justice and death by roundhouse kick.

Cool review.  If I buy it online, how do I get you to autograph it?

I will happily autograph a printout of the story.  IGMS does not prohibit printing out the story -- in fact, there should be a link in the left column to a printer-friendly version of the page.

Okay, I'm dredging up an old thread so sue me.  I just have to tell you that I read "Tabloid Reporter" before I knew it was you who had written it.  I loved it.  When I saw it was you who wrote it I knew I recognized your name from somewhere.  I finally remembered it from conventions and here and I was right.  Great job.  I hope they tap you for more stories for IGMS.

I'm glad you liked the story.

And yes, IGMS has bought another story of mine, "Accounting for Dragons," which will probably appear in issue 8.

AWESOME!  What did you end up doing with it, revision wise?

Eric, you need another novel.  Something more...Scalzi-like, I think, to show off your versatility when sending out manuscripts.

I took out the joke at the beginning that wasn't working and made other minor tweaks based on the feedback at writers' group.

Three hours after I sent it to Edmund, he bought it, making it my fastest acceptance ever.

I heard there's going to be an IGMS anthology.  Do you know if your story is going to be in it?

My stories "Tabloid Reporter to the Stars" and "Taint of Treason" will be in the IGMS anthology.  Also, the cover of the book will use the artwork from Tabloid.  Naturally, I'm thrilled--and the fact that the anthology payment was more than I was paid for the stories originally didn't hurt.
