Title: Find Fell a job!
Post by: Fellfrosch on February 02, 2007, 09:34:34 PM
Hi everybody! I'm calling in every favor and kindness that I can right now, I'm afraid: I need a job, and I need one fast. I was laid off today, and they gave me no severance at all. We can make it for about a month, and then we're living on credit cards. If you know of any real or freelance jobs that require a lot of writing and/or editing, please let me know (or, frankly, anything else that could help tide us over), please let me know. Thanks!

Can you post a resume or summary of a resume so we know more details of what to look for?

I'll see what I can around here. How do you feel about moving?

Dude.  That sucks.

Apply to Stamp it Up.

I shall keep my eyes peeled wide.

Oh, there's always UPS for an interim.  I hear they have decent wages and benefits.  Top that off with a waiting job at a snazzy restaurant in the evenings...

I can offer you a job as a source for my research paper about poverty. But I don't think that will help you much.

Well, one of the projects I'm working on is looking for a new Americorp member. Course, there is no way you can support a family on an Americorp living stipend.

I do know someone who works with the state as a employment and career counselor. Her job consists of finding jobs for other people. I can send her an email, but she may not have anything right now.

Poor Fell. :( That's so harsh.

I'd also ask your bishop for leads if you haven't. He should be able to help you network with others.

And, actually, I'd urge you to turn to the church welfare system before relying on credit cards. Yes, it sucks to have to rely on that. Believe me, I'm well aware of that. And yet, that's what it's there for, and they have much more than just food. Anyway, the bishop could even help with bills like house payments and utilities.

But with so many people helping you, I'll bet you will find a job. Soon.

Ouch, Fell.

Have you seen this (http://byualumni.applicantsearch.com/pages/active") ? Apparently BYU is starting up an alumni placement service. It's worth a look.

The only other leads I have right now are the Church magazine internship, which probably doesn't pay well enough and involves a long commute. But if you're interested, PM me and I'll get you the details. I'll also keep an eye out for anything else.

Sorry to hear that, Fell. Good luck!

If you have at least six years of editing experience, you can apply to be a senior editor at the Ensign. It's pretty competitive, though--Church jobs always are. Here's the link: http://www.lds.org/emp/emp2.html, and then scroll down to the very bottom of the list.

I say you go professional heckler, like the professional beach bully, someone pays you to heckle them at LTUE or other con panel they're on but by the end they get to make a, preplanned, fool out of you and it makes them look smart.

Ouch.  That's very bad news.  There have been a slew of openings at Orem Public Library, but none right now.  I'll keep you up to date if any open, though.  I think there will probably be 2 part time (with benefits) in the near future.  That would only be about $15,000 a year, though.  I'll keep an ear out for other opportunities, though.

Fell, it may not be WON'T be of any help, but I could get you a brand-new headset AND the Burning Crusade expansion pack, and we could waste colossal amounts of time together.

Seriously though, I'll keep an eye out.  Not a real eye out like Kopo, but you get the point.

My Burning Crusade offer still stands--to you and to EUOL.

Though actually, I bet I could make pretty good money as a gold farmer...

If I remember correctly, your "offer" was that if I would get you the BC expansion and a new headset you would play with all of us again, right?  But I forgot what EUOL's part in it was.
Title: Re: Find Fell a job!
Post by: Fellfrosch on March 07, 2007, 09:19:12 PM
You need to get me the expansion and pay the monthly fee; the headset was optional. My offer to EUOL was that I'd pay for his expansion and monthly fee if he starts playing.
Title: Re: Find Fell a job!
Post by: Parker on March 07, 2007, 11:37:41 PM
Are you still playing, Fell?  I've been thinking about starting on a new server--completely fresh.  But I don't know if I have a lot of time to devote to it.
Title: Re: Find Fell a job!
Post by: Spriggan on March 08, 2007, 12:15:00 AM
No, he hasn't played for quite some time despite Zokais best efforts.  Who would have thought Fell of all people would turn down someone paying for their subscription not just once but three times.

Hey, I would play with you guys. Not a ton, but still...

I've actually never turned him down, I think he's just too sane to pay for someone else's account. And this goes out to Nessa, Parker, and anyone else who wants to play with the cool kids: Horde on Nathrezim. It's the only way to fly.

Title: Re: Find Fell a job!
Post by: Parker on March 08, 2007, 05:55:16 PM
Tempting, but I think I'm about PVP-realmed out.  That's right--I'm planning on buying a carebear suit and moving to a Normal realm.  Maybe even try out an RP-PVE.  I just don't have enough time to want to spend it getting corpse-camped.  If I'm going to go on and play, I don't want to have to worry about anyone else but me.
Title: Re: Find Fell a job!
Post by: Spriggan on March 08, 2007, 06:06:24 PM
I don't blame you, PVE is the way to go.  PvP scarred me for life when I did it during the beta but it didn't help that the Blizzard employee guilds would cheat by using exploits that only they knew about to bring down whole towns at a time.  Got so bad that you couldn't get past lvl 25 because they'd sit in Tauren Mill on top of the buildings killing everyone and you couldn't target them (this was before the other mid 20 level horde area opened), needless to say once the actual developers of the game found out about this the proverbial crap hit the fan and a lot of people on their end got in trouble.

Horde on Nathrezim. It's the only way to fly.

This means I have to make a new character. Start from scratch. Again. Hrm. Maybe this isn't a bad idea. I haven't tried blood elf yet.

My only problem is that you guys are probably lvl 40+ and I'd be, like, lvl 10. Can't quest with you. Can't even follow you around without getting smashed.

Edit: OK. I have no self-control when it comes to WoW. I made a character. Name: Nessarose. Look for me.
Title: Re: Find Fell a job!

Ha, that's funny. You're right, we may not be out questing with you and stuff, but hey, we can send you 16 slot bags and give you some gold. :)

Names to put on your Nathrezim friends list:
Fellfrosch: Fellfrosch
Me: Cadamis, Absalom, Landsgrave (my new BE pally)
Micah (the  ultimate sugar daddy): Talos, Fiera, Sanjar, Rhuine, Sesino, Naerom
Zokai: Prym, Thyn
Title: Re: Find Fell a job!
Post by: Fellfrosch on March 09, 2007, 10:00:11 PM
Thanks to the kindness and mental infirmity of our dear Zokai, I am now the proud owner of an active Burning Crusade account (and a new headset, since the mic was broken on my old one). I do intend to start a Blood Elf character as well as level Fellfrosch up to 70, so I should be able to play with newbies and oldies alike. I'm not often on at useful times, though, we'll have to see what works out.

Landsgrave is a Pally and Nessarose is a...what? I need to know what class to make my Blood Elf so we can work well together.
Title: Re: Find Fell a job!
Post by: Nessa on March 09, 2007, 10:03:11 PM
Actually, I'm a pally, too. It was either that or rogue. I have a priest and mage on other servers and wanted something different. If I had known, I would have chosen something else.

Any professions that would be useful to you guys? Both my mage/priest are herb/alch, but I'm not sure I want to do that again.
Title: Re: Find Fell a job!
Post by: Fellfrosch on March 09, 2007, 10:06:26 PM
My main is a dual-wield fighter, so I'd like to avoid rogue since it's so close. What if we're all pallies? Would that be horribly useless as a party? I've never done a caster, so I might go Mage.
Title: Re: Find Fell a job!
Post by: Nessa on March 09, 2007, 10:08:33 PM
I like mage and priest. I was surprised how much damage a priest can do. Mages can teleport/portal. So I would go for that if I were you. That would be very handy in a group.

I can focus my talents on healing, so I can do that. I rather like my priest, but I'm to lvl 30 and don't want to do it all over again.
Title: Re: Find Fell a job!
Post by: Fellfrosch on March 09, 2007, 10:20:27 PM
Well, there's no need for you to make another priest if you've already got one. Pallies have enough helaing to get us by, especially with two of them. I'll make a mage, because doggonit I probably should at some point.

Title: Re: Find Fell a job!

I had a phone interview with Wizards of the Coast yesterday, and I thought it went pretty well...and apparently it must have gone very well, because they're flying me out to Seattle next week! I don't know the exact day yet, but I'll post it here as soon as I do. Huzzah!

I'm expecting a totally weird interview, like they leave me in a room for 4 hours and tell me to have a thirty page IP bible ready when they come back, designed to appeal to fourth-grade monkeys with severed limbs and alzheimer's disease.

Though that does spark questions as to what will happen to TWG's review section if you get the job, but that's something to discuss if/when you do get it.
Title: Re: Find Fell a job!
Post by: stacer on March 22, 2007, 06:54:26 PM

Title: Re: Find Fell a job!
Post by: Fellfrosch on March 22, 2007, 07:39:36 PM
I have an itinerary: I fly out of Salt Lake Wednesday night, have 7 interviews with various people on Thursday morning, and fly back Thursday night.

I have to assume that they're really interested in me, because that's a pretty hefty financial investment.

You cannot see it, but I am dancing the dance of joy.
