Title: question on Three-Dragon Ante
Post by: Aen Elderberry on December 11, 2006, 07:34:02 PM
Anyone here ever played Three-Dragon Ante?  Is anyone able to give us a review?

Supposedly it's the popular card came played by all your D&D characters.

There's a Wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three-Dragon_Ante

I've seen it in stores, but I've never known anyone to buy it, play it, or not think it's a silly idea.

I've been meaning to pick it up and see how it plays, but I couldn't review it for obvious reasons. However, if you like, I can bring it to LTUE and you guys can try it out.

Sure, it coulsn't hurt. Is that the next time you're coming? That's a long time for us to remain Stacer-less.

I know! But yeah, it's the next time. They're even flying me out. Hence, the reason I can afford it in Feb.

We should set up a Stacer-web-cam and replace the news box with it.

I demand that Stacer wear a wireless webcam in her glasses at all times, like in Mission: Impossible, so that we can experience life through her eyes.

Life through my eyes is pretty boring. But I do have my cell phone cam (http://norroway.livejournal.com/106464.html). (I'll be getting the hang of videos at some future point.) That good enough?

I got curious and my gaming group is always interested in new card games to play, so I ordered it off the internets. I'll let you guys know how it matches up when I get a chance to play it.

It got a really favourable review from RPG.net (http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/11/11801.phtml) though. [/fraternising_with_enemy]

OH NOES! NOT RPG.NET!!!

Their reviews are hit or miss, just like most sites, but I don't mind their front end (aside from the 10 year old looking website).

From RPG.net  "Three-Dragon Ante is a new gambling card game"

Oh, no!   I've encouraged people to play a Gambling game!  When you are all pennyless gambling addicts I'll feel terrible.  By the way if you need to sell off all your roleplaying, sci-fi and fantasy books to pay for your new habit, let me know.

Actually, I guess I already knew it was a "poker" like game but I thought it was just for roleplaying.  I can be so naive sometimes.

I haven't seen it in stores yet.  But as a gambling game for inclusion in a D&D game?  Excellent idea!  10/10!

Why?  there is no skill in D&D for gambling - its situational at best and relies 100% on a single die roll (and you can only roll a d100 so many times before getting bored).

What I started using and what works AMAZING 'cause everyone already has it - is the Dice Guessing game from Pirates of the Carribean 2 (the only think good from that movie, imo).

Give it a shot at your next game - you will love it, and so will your players!
