Well today I was writing up a character for palladium fantasy at a dinner down the block with a few friends it was all fun'n'stuff with the nerd craft tell this old guy he must have been like 40 or something wouldn't stop staring at us. (By hes old and 40 meaning behind the times). But any-who he looked at us like we where Satan lovers or something like ??? I'm a bloody paladin!
I don't care if people think I'm a nerd I'm probe that I am but should I like not talk about how a changeling would be hated by every one in the middle of a dinner or what?

well his problem was obviously that you were making a character for Palladium fantasy instead of GURPS, which supports fantasy better or D&D which is the Defacto choice of gamers everywhere.
However in the unlikely event he was upset at your using a roleplaying game in public I find that staring back works wonders,... especially while flashing the devil sign and sticking out your tounge like Gene Simmons from Kiss.

I had an ST who loved to game in this park... all the players hated it... cuz it would be a nice sunny sunday afternoon, in a nice park outside the "city" (its maine there are 2 cities in the entire state and this was not one of them)
We got stared at a lot... especially the satyrs... with their horns and everything... after a game or two of that we stopped with the costumes... a couple games after that we refused to come before dark... then refused to come at all... the game kinda died after that...
but funny story about staring back - a bunch of girls were doing laps around the park and every time would glare at me and a couple people I was sitting with in game (all dressed normally just sitting and talking) so we all glared back at them, this happened a few times, so next time they came by I yelled boo at them staring... they didnt come back...

people in public are rude if your different... and I don't know why.
What I hate is when people slyly think they are reading the titles of my RPG books when I ride the metro or something. I've gotten disapproving looks, but they always freak out when I ask them to kindly not stare at me, or just stared back just as hard. Course Im a rude city dweller. :P

It might have been do to the fact I like ALOT of pepper with my food but yeah I think the boo idea might work.
Or there's the time I was talking Rifts with a few friends on the public bus and when we got of the bus driver said "Watch out for freaks" and this other guy replied "They are the freaks." Funny to look back at but whats the big problem with talking about an imaginary world with a few Buddy's, better then doing drugs... right?

You talk about it like getting looks from random people is a bad thing. I love attention, and I don't think I'd get nearly enough of it by talking about RPGs.
Now, dancing around while singing along with the DDR version of Circle of Life like I was earlier today, that's a good attention grabber.

I find it hilarious when people who are obviously doing something they *know* is well outside the norm for behavior, often *for* the attention try to slam people who are giving them attention.

It probably had a lot to do with the fact that when DnD first came out people ((cough mainly mormons)) said that it was a game used to worship the devil.

Actually it's more the Bible Belt then the Mormons, ie Jack Chick and his ilk.

Having lived in both the south and utah, and having a fair number of associates in both places, I would have to say bible belt is the one that continues the issue. After all, if your not baptist, you must be a satan worshiper.

This reminds me of the "old days" of my gaming in the 80's at a Denney's restaurant. We played D&D or Champions, among other systems like Fringeworthy after ten once or twice a month. We didn't use miniatures much and it added to the amount of character work we did. Actually, we gamed there to do Role Play without too much of the "roll play". The manager let us game over night on coffee and sodas, knowing that we'd buy breakfast (for dinner) before we left. Also, more people filtered in overnight if the parking lot had a few cars.
We were normal teens and university students of the time. That meant loud color shirts, blue jeans, and one of the late joiners went Cindy Lauper. (Don't faint, we had three women gamers. Call Colleen a girl and she'll give you a frog!) Add to that being in Indianapolis. Most people at the time equated dice with gambling and we had loads of D6 on the table. It took two months before the cops became casual. One even said his son played.
At first we'd get a wide birth from having books with "Monster Manual", "Vampires" and "Villains" emblazoned on them. Sometimes there'd be "blue hairs" scowling from across the isle. We didn't get any other problems.

So, I'm flirting with this guy over a mildly interesting tale of his about how he is the *BEST* player on World of Warcraftat the moment*cough* and I get stared at by this girl I sit behind in chemistry. I glared back at her, and she says, "Hey, ........., did you know your shirt is see-through?"
Now I know why that kid had a stutter...... ;D 8)I am obviously the coolest ever.

Maybe the 40 year old guy staring at you was just jealous 'cause he wanted to be playing but his mom still won't let him.
