Title: Politcal Parties
Post by: GorgonlaVacaTremendo on April 27, 2005, 08:38:22 PM
How many major politcal parties does England have?  Austrailia? Any other country (besides the states and Canada) that anyone here knows?

I know there are at least 4 in England though it seams right now only 2 are in the running for things (Labor and Conservitive).  They both have coalitions so I assume there might be more but small ones.

Ok, in Australia, there are two main ones, liberal and Labor, who are the only ones who have any chance of winning the election. (Liberal won, mostly because liberal are lying idiots who scared the Australian public about interest rates as though that was the most important issue).

There are a bunch of smaller parties too. The democrats are the ones who SHOULD be running the country, the greens are the democrats without guts, and there are a couple more. Watch out for Family First - evil, evil, vile, party formed and funded from a single church who got 2.5% of the vote, and want to ban anything their church disagrees with.

If they get anymore of the vote next time, I'm moving to Europe.

We are coming up for a general election here.

The main three in Britain are Labour (centre-left party, currently in power, will have ~40% of the vote I think); Conservatives (aka Tory party, Right wing party, will take 30 - 35% of the vote most likely) and the Liberal Democrats (far left party that masquerades as centreist, hated by all other parties, will take about 20% of the vote).

smaller parties include the British Nationalist Party (nazi's), The Monster Raving Loony Party (they are for something, but nobody is entirely sure what), UKIP (aka United Kingdom Independance Party - a Tory offsplit that is basing it's campaign on removing Britain from Europe and fiercer asylum policy), The Greens, a few others.

Regional Specific parties include SNP (Scottish National Party - left wing I believe, all for taking scotland out of the UK), Sein Fein (terrorist front for the IRA in North Ireland) and probably a welsh party of some kind.

Hope that helps.
